This year's Streetopia event is set for Saturday December 1st - but the team behind it have already begun the process of organising what promises to be another glorious day of performance, play and creativity on our streets.

But before the big day, the event;s roll-out will be making a splash as artworks that are part of Streetopia's legacy initiative are installed across Obs.

This is in line with Streetopia's aim to spark community collaboration and innovation through creative projects that leave a positive mark on Obs after the event is cleared away from Lower Main Rd and our Village Green.

By flooding the streets with creativity, the festival aims to leave a long-lasting positive impact and legacy for the community, uplifting people singularly and collectively.

Among the existing legacy artworks that have already been installed are the mural on the wall of Obs Liquor, and also two artlights created by Ralph Borland and the SpaceCraft team.

One of the artlights is alongside Café Ganesh on Trill Rd.

The other artlight is on the façade of the building that houses The Peacock restaurant, on the corner of Trill and Lower Main. Other installations will be happening in the wall-mounted display boxes that AfrikaBurn erected on Lower Main Rd next to Munro's, and also outside Ganesh.

These have been filled with art created by students from the Putter School, with whom AfrikaBurn has been collaborating to provide opportunities for the students to show their works.

This year, the event has been fortunate to receive funding from the National Lotteries Commission which will go towards some art-related event costs - all of which adds up to a means to ensuring that Streetopia will remain a completely free event, to which all residents of Obs are invited to participate in.

Look out for more Streetopia news over the next two months as the event roll-out commences.

If you as an Obs resident or business owner would like to find out how you can get involved or support the event, email info@streetopia.co.za or visit streetopia.co.za
