Obswatch aims to up membership

The Observatory Neighbourhood Watch (Obswatch) recently held their 2017 AGM.

The event was well attended by all stakeholders including law enforcement, council, new security service provider Outer Shield, OCA, OBSID and a good number of community members and others.

Outgoing chairman Steve Killick, highlighted an increase in membership and the new online database, crime stats and the improved crime reporting mechanisms in place and thanked everyone who is actively involved for their ongoing efforts in reducing crime by 40% for the year.

Mike Bird, a member of the Obswatch communications team, highlighted the desire to make the communications strategy top of the agenda for Obswatch this year - part of a longer-term restructuring and an attempt to increase membership by making Obswatch more fun and appealing to more people, groups, organisations and businesses.

This aims to make Observatory a safer neighbourhood by bringing more people out onto the street and reduce crime through increasing numbers of people and activities outdoors.

Some of the great ideas the team have suggested are dog walking groups, nightly bicycle tours, geo caching, historical guided walks, neighbourhood bring-and-braais and running groups to name but a few.

So, all those who are keen to get involved, look out for exciting new opportunities to get involved and make your Obs safer for you and all.

Look out for their new Meerkat logo and join their group on Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/obswatch/ to get involved.
