ADVERTORIAL - Finally! A pet shop opens in Lower Main

An art gallery, boxing club and now a pet shop!
There’s no doubt that the character of Lower Main Road is shifting to a more family orientated vibe and The Pet Shop is evident of this change.
The quaint pet shop, on the corner of Norwich Avenue and Lower Main Road, is a brand new, family owned business aimed at services Observatory’s pets.
Leonard Desmore, the owner of The Pet Shop, was a former Obs resident and currently lives in Woodstock.
Previously living in the neighbourhood for more than 20 years, he was familiar with the negative character associated with Lower Main Road.
He said new businesses, such as the pet shop and Ahem! Art gallery, have done a lot to clean up the former bad image of Lower Main Road.
“The other businesses owners [in Lower Main Road] have been happy and have said that a pet shop should work here in Obs seeing that there isn’t any around.
“The closest pet shop is in Durham Avenue in Salt River,” said Leonard.
The Pet Shop caters for dogs, cats, birds, hamsters, fish and rabbits.
They even sell live birds, hamsters and gold fish for residents who would like an animal companion.
The store also stocks Raw Love, a natural raw foods brand for dogs and cats.
Leonard said that raw foods have become very popular among pet owners, as it is fresh, non-processed food.
Leonard, a former IT specialist, said besides serving the neighbourhood’s pets, he is available for any computer related advice and service.
“Any business owners need IT advices or work done on their systems and computers, I’m the guy they can come to,” he said. The Pet shop is open from 9am to 5pm during the week and closes at 2pm on the weekend.
The store’s operating times will differ during the festive season.
