OBSID - 3 international interns join OBSID
By: Jermaine Johnson
Greetings! I'm Jermaine Johnson II and I'm an intern at OBSID.
I'm from Detroit Michigan, currently attending University of Western Cape for the semester.
My time in Cape Town has been fantastic. The people are welcoming and I truly feel at home.
Due to my studies in marketing and journalism, I decided to intern at OBSID. Most of my time is spent helping with ObsLife.
I also have done some work with TRUP and the Municipal Spatial Development Framework.
Another intern here is Benjamin Pettee, he's from St. Paul Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes.
He's studying political science and religious studies.
He chose to work at OBSID due to interest in urban planning and community development.
His experience in Cape Town has been great thus far, but still getting used to African time and everyone driving on the opposite side of the road than back home.
Lastly, there is Niels van Buggenum. He is 21 years old.
He loves to play soccer with friends and teammates at RKDFC in Merkelbeek, his hometown in the Netherlands.
It is a small village in South Limburg with 1700 inhabitants, very different than Cape Town.
He's been here since the end of August and already loves the city. He says, "there are so many things to see and do. The nature is beautiful and people are friendly."
He'll be at OBSID for 20 weeks and he chose it due to their non-profit status. His main goal is to do something meaningful for the community in Cape Town.
