Almost everything in and near Obs can be recycled or up-cycled. All the income from the glass deposited in the bins outside the Obs Railway Station goes to OBSID to make Obs safer, cleaner and smarter.

Recycle 1st, once a pilot project in OBSID starting with 125 houses now servicing 237 houses, is an independent women-run business servicing many other suburbs throughout Cape Town.

They recycle almost anything, employ 30 staff from Langa and Bonteheuwel and offer a special price for Obs residents!

Just R65/month for 3 bags per week .

Other areas pay R113/pm for 3 bags per week.

Just give them a call and sign up. Call Anthea Fransman on 081 3389514 or e-mail her on anthea@recycle1st.co.za .

Their website is www.recycle1st.co.za The nearby Woodstock Municipal Waste Drop off site recycles almost everything as well. How about this brilliant idea for up-cycling?

Just knock some old stiff broom heads on to a couple of planks and you have the perfect all-weather shoe cleaner on your front stoep.
