Letters - Let’s try to do it ourselves before we complain

From Stephen van der Spuy:

Let's help our Ward Councillor Patrick Chapple and here's how:

Many years ago, at a public meeting, our local councillor requested residents who have any municipal complaints to "please try and deal with these matters themselves and only complain to the Councillor as a last resort".

Recently I was at the Councillor's local office for about 30 minutes.

And during that time at least three residents phoned about complaints, which I'm sure they could have dealt with themselves.

Residents can refer to the front of the White Pages in the Telephone book or if they have a computer, visit the City of Cape Town's website.

Residents must consider that Ward 57 probably consists of over 5000 housing units and that there is a limit to what the Ward Councillor is able to do. Residents must help themselves where possible.
